Elections on the Web 2007: Chavit Singson Website Reviewed

Author’s Note: Standard Web Standards has started a “blog mini-series” on the notable websites of Philippine elections candidates (For everyone’s information, Filipinos will be voting for national and local officials this coming May 14, 2007).

Chavit Singson

Chavit Singson is a real character. He once blew the lid open on his friend Joseph Estrada’s gambling involvement and described as one of the Philippines’ most powerful gangsters. And now, he’s running for the Philippine senate. While it’s hard to ignore his checkered political career, his website seems to be able sanitize this politico.

  1. Design – The site’s design is pretty simple and straight-forward, but won’t win any design award any time soon.
  2. “Lagot ka, lagot ka” – What the heck is with the jingle that replays with every page load? Sakit sa ulo. (It gives me a headache).
  3. Homepage – The homepage is able to show the platform, but is not in prime screen real estate.
  4. Content Quality – Is it me or the content needs better editing?
  5. Content Quantity – Is it me or the content is a bit too sparse?
  6. Impact -Chavit is known to be a hard-hitting warlord, but the same can’t be said about the site’s impact. It’s weak as his poll performance.
  7. Tables – I really have to say this. Chavit Singson’s site continues the trend of table-laden political websites.

Chavit Singson’s platform is centered on the provinces. His site definitely is proof to that– a good portion of the people in the provinces will not be able to see his website because of the lack of internet access. And that is a good thing.
