Author’s Note: Standard Web Standards has started a “blog mini-series” on the notable websites of Philippine elections candidates (For everyone’s information, Filipinos will be voting for national and local officials this coming May 14, 2007).

If you are going to put weight on the recent polls on the senatorial candidates, Tessie Aquino-Oreta would not finish on the “Magic 12.” I personally would attribute that to a) the electorate apparently hasn’t forgiven her for her “Dancing Queen” episode in the 2001 trial of Joseph Estrada and b) her website isn’t doing her much help.
- Identity Crisis – Take a look at this website. Looks familiar huh?
- Same Old Problems – Related to #1, since the design and production are very similar, they share almost the same problems like navigation and information architecture, to mention a few.
- That is a blog? - The site has a link to her, uhm, blog. Well, I personally am having an internal conflict in calling a blog at all. I mean, only one post? Can someone tell her campaign folks to add some content?
- Better Content - I have to admit, the homepage content is answers a lot of questions regarding her platform.
- That Song Again – When you open the website, it will play her campaign theme song, which unfortunately does not have a control to start or stop the audio.
- Polish, polish – The site, while it uses DIV’s extensively, mixed it up with tables. The end result is a site with error problems in some sections.
- PDF Peeve – I’m really peeved by the use of PDF’s for the News section. If I’m not mistaken, in this reality, news should be readily accessible.
Undoubtedly, this is a better version of Tito Sotto’s website. But the irony of the situation is Sotto is faring better in the surveys. This is definitely an argument against cyber-campaigning for the elections.
